This article presents didactic paths aimed at the learning of numbers in first grade of primary school, through investigation and detection of the numbers with which children are confronted in everyday life. The experiences are centered on discovery activities, workshops and games, which intend to promote basic numerical skills, that are fundamental for this school year also in continuity with subsequent school years when this learning is extended and consolidated. For each didactic path, some possible links are proposed with the materials created within the MaMa project (Matematica per la scuola elementare). Such materials can help the teacher in the planning of these paths, making it possible to alternate concrete and manipulative discovery activities with moments of reflection and exercise.
